It has been a real honour and a privilege to have been returned to Westminster as the new Member of Parliament for the Daventry Constituency. After a very busy few weeks in Westminster, I am happy to be back home in the constituency for a weekend of meetings, visits and house viewings.
Whilst it has been extremely busy, I made sure to drop into the NFU Summer Reception. During my campaign, I made every effort to meet as many local farmers as possible, and I know they have real concerns about the future of farming under the new Government, which will no doubt have been exacerbated by the Kings Speech and its complete lack of regard for vital rural issues. Had some great discussions with NFU representatives on how I can ensure I am representing farmers and the rural community, and I will be contacting the new Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to press these issues.
I also attended the virtual meeting of the HS2 Liaison Group with local Councillors and community groups to discuss many of the issues local residents have been facing. I’m working closely with my neighbour, Sarah Bool MP, and we are currently arranging a site visit.
While I am operating with very minimal staff at the moment, we have hit the ground running and many of my new constituents have got in touch already for help and advice. I am responding to all emails as quickly as I can, and I am pleased that the vast majority have already been responded to. Please do bear with me as we are setting up our new constituency office and team, as I may not be able to respond as quickly as I would usually while this is underway.
