It is great to be back in the constituency after a very busy first week back in Westminster.
This week, as both your MP and as Shadow Chief Whip I have been fighting hard to prevent the planned changes to the Winter Fuel Payments. The Government had been trying to sneak this through without a vote but following strong pressure from the Conservatives in Opposition as well as an outcry from people across the country, the decision to end the payments will now be discussed and voted on by MPs. I will of course be voting against it and encouraging all colleagues across the House to do the same.
In the patch, we have made great progress in setting up my new team and office and I am now ready to begin conducting visits and surgeries, so please do get in touch with me if you would like to attend one.
