It was great to call in at Overstone Parish Council’s drop-in event on the West Northamptonshire Council Local Plan.
A huge amount of work had clearly gone into making what is often a very complex and technical process much more accessible and understandable for local residents. That is incredibly important, because people need to be able to properly see what is being proposed and have the opportunity to give informed feedback.
Planning decisions of this scale matter enormously to local communities, and it is vital that residents are able to have their say.
One of the key concerns raised was the need to ensure that housing growth is matched by the right infrastructure. Too often, communities are asked to absorb significant new development without the roads, schools, health services and other local facilities needed to support it.
That concern is especially understandable where facilities promised alongside previous developments have still not been delivered.
Local people want to see proper place-making and sustainable communities, not simply housing numbers imposed on areas without the infrastructure to match.
Many thanks to Overstone Parish Council for the hard work they have put into helping residents engage with this process.
