As part of my six-point plan when I stood for re-election in 2015, I pledged to work to improve local transport across the constituency and the wider city. After the election, I was made the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Transport, Patrick McLoughlin. In this role, I assisted the Secretary of State in the House of Commons Chamber, liaised with MPs, arranged briefing meetings and offered other such support. It also gave me a chance to push harder for improvements to transport in our area, something which I have been passionate about ever since I was on Leeds City Council and that I will continue to fight for for our constituency. With the trolleybus scheme being axed, I fought for Leeds City Council to be able to retain the £173m that it had been allocated to spend on the scheme. This was successful, and there is now a huge task before us to make sure that we make full use of this funding and finally develop a long term solution to transport woes across Leeds. On this page, you will be able to see news regarding my work on transport.
