Stuart has today welcomed the news that Leeds is to trial new innovative solutions to free up hospital beds.
In total, up to £14.1 billion additional funding will be invested by government over the next two years to improve urgent and emergency care and tackle the backlog – the highest spend on health and care in any government’s history. £7.5 billion of this support is for adult social care and discharge over the next two years which will also help deal with immediate pressures.
This new initiative launched today will see Leeds Health and Care Partnership focused on intermediate care, establishing an Active Recovery Service providing short term community rehabilitation and reablement. This focus on rehabilitation and reablement not only improves patient experience but helps prevent future re-admission.
Leeds is one of six areas exploring new ideas to free up hospital beds and make sure patients get the right care at the right time – key to reducing future urgent and emergency care delays and help getting ambulances back on the roads quicker.
Stuart said: "Having spoken to many constituents about the difficulties they are having in accessing urgent care, ensuring patients are able to leave hospital as soon as appropriate to do so is crucial for both existing and prospective patients. I am delighted that Leeds has been named as one of the Discharge Frontrunners launched to lead the way, and I look forward to learning more about the solutions put in place and the benefits this will have to my constituents."
