A very busy first week back in Westminster after recess.
This week, I was pleased to attend a meeting to discuss Gloria's Law, which seeks to bring in a legal right for those using health and social care services to always have the support of a family carer available. It was deeply moving listening to the families talking about their experiences during the pandemic, and how this affected their families and loved ones. I know my colleagues in the Department of Health and Social Care are keen to ensure this doesn’t happen again, and I will continue to press for action.
I was also delighted that Pudsey Grammar School is one of the schools being offered funding from the Department for Education’s Post-16 Capacity Fund. This funding is aimed at areas where there is a pressing need for places for further education, and will help ensure more young people in Pudsey have the opportunity to gain important skills and education.
It was also a pleasure to greet Fran Heley as she arrived in Parliament this week, as she completed her Pathway to Parliament walk from Leeds to raise funding an awareness for Ehlhers-Danlos Support UK. An incredibly impressive feat, and one I will certainly be pressing with colleagues in the Department of Health and Social Care.An incredibly impressive feat, and one I will certainly be pressing with colleagues in the Department of Health and Social Care. Elsewhere in Westminster this week, issues being raised with me in my Westminster office this have been on a wide range of policy subjects. The majority have been responded to, a handful I have raised with Government officials for further information.
In the patch this week, I have been busy assisting with issues with apprenticeships, pensions, planning, highways, crime and disorder, passports, social care, playgrounds, social housing, driving licences and child maintenance.
As ever, please do not hesitate to contact me if there is anything I can do to be of assistance, or if you have any issues you need to raise with me.
