Stuart's Week in Westminster

WIW

Happy to be back home in the constituency after a busy week in Westminster.

An equally busy weekend in the patch lies ahead, including holding both of my open surgeries as well as several appointments, visits and meetings. Tomorrow, I will be in Horsforth Morrisons at 10:00am and Guiseley Morrisons at 11:30am holding my monthly advice surgeries. Please do come down if you wish to speak with me, as no appointment is necessary to do so.

If you are unable to attend an open surgery or if it is not suitable for your circumstances or the matter you wish to discuss, please get in touch to request a private appointment. Information on how to do so can be found on this website, both on the homepage and under the Surgeries tab.

In Westminster, I was pleased to hear that the American Bully XL dog, which has been responsible or suspected to be responsible for numerous recent attacks, is to be banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act by the end of the year. I have been contacted by a number of constituents who have raised the valid point that the number of instances do not indicate that this is an issue of poor ownership or training, rather a pattern of dangerous and often fatal behaviour that needs to be addressed. I am pleased that the Prime Minister has listened, and I will be monitoring this closely for developments as work is undertaken to accurately define the breed first.

In the patch, the casework arriving in my constituency office this week has been on issues such as speed restrictions, antisocial behaviour and the police, licencing issues, social housing assistance, care home funding, passports, banking, pensions, benefits, and probate to name but a few.

Elsewhere in the patch, I am aware that Leeds Bradford Airport have applied to Leeds City Council to alter the restrictions they are under regarding night-time flying. I will ensure that the potential implications of this for my constituents is made clear to Leeds City Council ahead of their decision.

As ever, if you need any assistance or if you have any concerns you wish to raise with me, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
