Stuart was delighted to be joined by neighbouring Conservative Members of Parliament to discuss the ongoing transport needs in West Yorkshire and how they will work together to ensure the region get the solutions it needs.
In attendance was Philip Davis MP (Shipley), Andrea Jenkyns MP (Morley and Outwood), Jason McCartney MP (Colne Valley), Robbie Moore MP (Keighley and Ilkley) and Craig Whittaker MP (Calder Valley). Imran Ahmad-Khan MP (Wakefield) and Alex Shelbrooke MP (Elmet and Rothwell) were unable to attend due to commitments in their constituencies but they remain committed to resolving transport issues in West Yorkshire.
Stuart said: “We had a fantastic first meeting of our West Yorkshire Transport Group and I am very pleased to hear my colleagues’ views and ideas.
I personally feel that we need to make the case for a new metro or light tram rail system between Leeds and Bradford to allow for some essential alleviation of the excessive congestion and pollution issues we face as a city and I am also firmly in favour of the Northern Powerhouse Rail between Leeds and Manchester.
In Pudsey I am encouraging the modernisation of the Leeds Northern Outer Ring Road, investment in junctions such as the dangerous Horsforth Roundabout and dualling much of the road as it causes considerable congestion, air pollution and a high number of accidents.
We were all very pleased by the commitment by the Government to invest in the North of England during the General Election and we will continue to engage with each other on an ongoing basis during this Parliament.”
